Stronger Enforcement of Section 1557

Health Care Non-Discrimination

A coalition of over 200 national civil and human rights organizations is pushing for stronger enforcement of Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act. The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is the nation's premier coalition on civil and human rights.

In a recent letter to the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Director of Office of Civil Rights (OCR), the Leadership Conference argued that although significant advances have been made in health care equality, there are still disparities in access to, and quality of care amongst vulnerable populations.

We understand the complexities of ensuring equality throughout the health care system, and believe that a strong language access plan is an essential starting point. English-speaking or not, individuals must fully understand their rights in order to pursue and receive the care they need.

Don't wait until OCR is knocking at your door. Take a proactive approach to Section 1557's language assistance requirements.
